SURVEY CREW CHIEF

JSE has job openings for experienced Survey Crew Chiefs. Candidates should have experience in all aspects of surveying and research for roadway projects including highways, interstates, urban streets, bridges, and culverts. Experience utilizing AutoCAD/Civil 3D is desirable. Familiarity with INDOT topographic survey collection and right-of-way procedures is necessary. Candidates should have at least an Associate Degree, with SIT/SI credentials a plus. The ideal candidate for this position will have 5 or more years experience as a survey party chief performing transportation-related surveys: GPS and Conventional Topographical Surveying, Route Surveying, Boundary Surveying, ALTA Surveys, Construction Layout & Staking.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform and supervise assistants in survey assignments including: GPS & Conventional Topographic Surveys, Route Surveys, ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Construction Staking, and Transportation projects with INDOT and local government agencies.
  • Perform survey computations including Coordinate System Translations (e.g. State Plane), traverse calculations, level note reduction, calculations for staking and construction layout.
  • Provide AutoCAD drawings containing survey and right-of-way data for use in transportation infrastructure development.
Qualifications:
  • Complete all assigned tasks in a timely fashion, be diligent in field procedures and maintain high company standards at all times.
  • Perform and supervise assistants in survey assignments including: GPS & Conventional Topographic Surveys, Route Surveys, ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Construction Staking, and Transportation projects with INDOT and local government agencies.
  • Perform survey computations including Coordinate System Translations (e.g. State Plane), traverse calculations, level note reduction, calculations for staking and construction layout.
  • 5-10 years of survey crew chief experience including GPS & Conventional Topographic Surveys, Route Surveys,  ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Construction Staking, ALTA and Boundary Surveying
  • Adhere to QA/QC procedures. Follow instructions/work orders from project managers.
  • Proficiency with Trimble GPS, Trimble Robotic Total Station (S6), Trimble Digital Levels, Trimble Data Collectors.
  • Proficient with INDOT Standards: Topographic Survey  Collection, Right-of-Way Surveys
  • INDOT Right-of-Way Plan Development Certification a plus.
  • Strong field decision skills.
  • Generate survey drawings and surfaces through the use of Autodesk Civil3D.
  • Ability to organize field notes and execute field staking.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Review and follow project scope, keeping all project information and electronic files well organized.
  • SIT credentials a plus.
  • Research to acquire survey records and information.
  • Assist in the review of property and right of way descriptions prepared for various functions.
  • Responsible maintenance of equipment, survey vehicles, and management of survey supplies.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment with travel and out-of-town stays required on some projects.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license.
  • Adhere to all applicable safety procedures.
