The Clear Creek Welcome Center is a design-bid-build project, part of the INDOT statewide Welcome Center improvement plan, which includes constructing new buildings, modernizing facilities, increasing truck parking, and improving pedestrian parking of 21 rest areas and welcome centers.
Clear Creek's design is inspired by "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing", the Indy 500. Its plans required the total removal and reconstruction of the existing welcome center along I-70 in Vigo County. The project increased the number of trucker parking spaces from 50 to 128 spaces and added two trucker restrooms.
Janssen & Spaans Engineering was responsible for providing overall project management, overseeing the design and construction. JSE was the Lead Designer for the project, including parking lot geometry, drainage, and utility coordination. JSE was also responsible for construction inspection/observation, ensuring the project was in compliance with INDOT Standards and Specifications.
