I-65/I-70 North Split Exchange

I-65 and I-70 are nationally significant corridors, serving the Midwest and United States in four directions. Many structures like these exceed their service life after nearly 50 years in operation. The I-65 / I-70 North Split (North Split) reconstruction project is an investment to upgrade central Indiana’s most congested interchange and improve safety and identity.

Reflecting the area and adjacent neighborhoods was a guiding principle from the start and were echoed during the public engagement process. The landscape planting plans and standards introduce a context-sensitive design to enhance both the ecology and the aesthetics of its surrounding areas. A lush forest and native prairie fill the open spaces around the highway.

New standards also define the look and feel of the bridges, walls, lighting, and signage throughout the project. Its large scale required robust construction methods and materials and close collaboration with the construction team to result in regeneration.
