The 80/90 PUSH Project is a major rehabilitation and upgrade of a 10-mile section of the Indiana Toll Road (I-80 / I-90) between the Illinois State line and exit 10 interchange (SR 912) in Gary. The existing mainline asphalt pavement was milled off and the underlying concrete pavement was crack and seated to accept a new pavement section. The project also required bridge deck replacements on 16 structures.

JSE was the prime consultant on this project providing road and bridge design services. A detailed maintenance of traffic scheme was developed by JSE that included interchange closures, as necessary, detour routes and phased construction on the mainline. To avoid peak travel demand, construction only occurred outside the time period of July 4th through Labor Day. The design plans were detailed to split the project up into a spring and fall construction timeframe.

The project required every bridge to be inspected in order to generate a durability report to confirm the rehabilitation required on each bridge. The durability report served as the scope verification document for which final plans were developed. Post-construction, JSE performed the bi-annual inspection and load rating of every bridge included in this project
